"Past
Perfect Continuous Tense" का प्रयोग उस action (कार्य) के लिए किया जाता है जो "Past" में शुरू हो कर "Past" में ही जारी रहे।
इस Tense में "Since" और "for" का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

हिंदी में पहचान - इस Tense की हिंदी में पहचान यह है कि Sentence के अंत में "रहा था, रही थी, रहे थे, रहीं थी" लगा होता है पर साथ में समय की बात भी की जाती है।
For Examples:
1.
My grandfather had been running
business before he died.
2.
It had been raining since morning
when you rang me up.
उपरोक्त दिए गए दोनो Sentences में क्रिया "Past" में शुरू हुई और "Past" में ही जारी रही।
Structure:
Subject + had + been + v1 + ing + Object + Since/For.
For Examples:
1. वह पिछले छह महीनों से सख़्त मेहनत कर रहा था।
He had been working hard
since last six months.
2. पुलिस दो सप्ताह से मामले की जांच कर रही थी।
The police had been
investigating the matter for two weeks.
3. दो दिन से लगातार बूंदा-बांदी हो रही थी।
It had been drizzling
continuously for two days.
4. कुत्ते दो घंटों से भिखारी पर भौंक रहे थे।
The dogs had been
barking at the beggar for two hours.
5. वह दस साल से गरीबों की मदद कर रहा था।
He had been helping the
poor for ten years.

Since/For.
Past
Perfect Continuous के Negative Sentences में "not" का प्रयोग "had" के बाद में और "been" से पहले होता है।
For Examples:
1. वह दो घंटे से कपड़े इस्त्री नहीं कर रहा था।
He had not been ironing
the clothes for two hours.
2. चौंकीदार पिछली रात से पहरे पर नहीं था।
The watchman had not
been watching since last night.
3. लड़के शाम से मैदान में नहीं खेल रहे थे।
The boys had not been
playing in the ground since evening.
4. वह परसों से घर को सफेदी नहीं कर रहे थे।
They had not been
whitewashing the house since day before yesterday.
5. दो दिन से मजदूर कुआं नहीं खोद रहे थे।
The labourers had not
been digging the well for two days.

Past
Perfect Continuous के Interrogative Sentences में "Had" का प्रयोग Subject से पहले होता है और Subject के बाद में "been" लगाया जाता है।

2. क्या वह 1980 से इस स्कूल में पढ़ा रहा था?
